Munich-based space-technology company unveils a bold roadmap spanning radar technology, orbital intelligence, decision support and long-term remediation.
MUNICH, 2 September 2026 — Project-S today publicly unveiled its mission to safeguard space access and exploration. The Munich-headquartered European space-technology company is developing space-based radar payloads and AI-enabled orbital-intelligence systems intended to improve the detection and tracking of small orbital debris and support safer satellite operations.
Orbit is rapidly becoming critical infrastructure for communications, navigation, science, climate observation and security. It is also becoming more complex. The European Space Agency estimates that roughly 1.2 million debris objects between 1 and 10 centimetres are already in Earth orbit—large enough to cause catastrophic damage in a collision.
Project-S was created to address that challenge across the full chain. Its roadmap connects future sensing, trajectory and risk analysis, collision-avoidance decision support and, over the longer term, debris remediation. The objective is not another isolated space-data tool, but an integrated safety layer designed around the needs of a growing orbital economy.
The company’s ambition is supported by evidence of execution. Project-S has already taken compact radar technology-demonstration hardware from design through assembly, testing and delivery with a lean engineering team and a compressed development cycle. The full ATLAS III story will be presented in the next phase of the launch campaign.
Project-S enters this public phase with multi-million-euro backing led by Uni.Fund II. This private investment is complemented by non-dilutive support through German federal, Bavarian and ESA-linked public innovation programmes. Exact financial terms are not disclosed.
“The space economy is becoming infrastructure. Safety must scale with it. We founded Project-S to help operators understand smaller threats, make better decisions and keep orbital access open for the generations that follow.” — Leonidas Askianakis, Founder & CEO of Project-S
"Space has quietly become critical infrastructure — for communication, navigation, security and climate — but the safety layer to protect it barely exists. That gap is exactly what we look to back. Project-S pairs real technical depth with rare speed: a lean team that has already taken radar hardware from design to delivery. We led this round because we believe this capability should be built in Europe, and that Leonidas and his team are the ones to do it. We're proud to support their mission to keep space safe and open for the generations to come." — Dora Trachana, Partner at Uni.Fund VC
The company reveal begins a new phase of dialogue with satellite operators, institutional stakeholders, research organisations, strategic partners and media as Project-S advances the European capabilities required for safer, more resilient and more sustainable use of orbit.
